Transformers

Installation, testing and energisation support for transformers, with tests selected for the transformer type, rating and manufacturer requirements.

Typical situations

  • A new transformer has arrived on site and needs receiving inspection.
  • A transformer needs installation or installation supervision.
  • Pre-energisation tests and protection checks are required.
  • An existing transformer needs condition testing or oil analysis.

What we do

  • Installation and installation supervision.
  • Receiving inspection.
  • Insulation resistance (IR) testing.
  • Transformer turns ratio (TTR) and winding checks.
  • Protection checks and energisation support.

Confirmed after survey or agreed separately

  • Test selection depends on whether the transformer is oil-filled or dry-type, its rating and the manufacturer's requirements.
  • Oil analysis is carried out by a laboratory; we coordinate sampling and reporting where agreed.
  • Authority to energise rests with the asset owner and, where applicable, the utility. We support the energisation; we do not approve it.

Engineering interfaces

  • MV switchgear and protection
  • LV main distribution
  • Earthing system
  • Utility connection, where applicable

Typical deliverables, as agreed

  • Receiving inspection record
  • Test records
  • Laboratory oil report, where coordinated
  • Pre-energisation checklist

Frequently asked questions

Are IR and TTR tests enough to commission a transformer?

Not on their own. They are part of a test scope that depends on the transformer and the installation. The full set of checks is agreed for each transformer.

Do you test dry-type transformers?

Yes, with a test scope suited to dry-type construction. Oil-related tests apply only to oil-filled units.
